November: Sound Journey
Make time for this 20-minute sound journey: Harmonium (seed mantras) + Tibetan Singing Bowls + mantra to the Goddess Durga.
Dear Slow Friends,
Make a comfortable space for yourself — perhaps with cushions and blankets on your yoga mat, or maybe your sofa or bed — light some candles and some incense, and let yourself be carried away with sound.
Our time together begins with some harmonium-accompanied oms and bija mantras.
“A bija mantra is a one-syllable sound used in meditation or yoga practice. Bija mantras are the most basic of primordial mantras; they are simple single syllable words that can be chanted or meditated on alone, or attached to a longer mantra to enhance its power and quality. Bija mantras are considered very intense and act as an instrument to access higher levels of consciousness. All Sanskrit, but particularly in the use of bija mantras, is thought to constitute divinity in the form of a sound.” - Yogapedia.
In this recording today I sing Om followed by Lam, Vam, Ram, Yam, Ham. After this I introduce my Tibetan Singing Bowls, before moving into a final mantra for Goddess Durga, the protective mother of the universe.
If you would like to know more about Durga, you can visit our monthly chat space for November where a conversation unfolded last week that inspired me to share this mantra.🧡
